New for 2004 was the addition of a ‘FILA Cadet’ age group. This event for 15 – 17 year olds (could not turn 18 this year, so our second year Juveniles were ineligible) was a great addition to the event and has a lot of potential. For years, we have tried to provide more and better programming for our developing boys and girls at this age group. This event delivers this. It give these young wrestlers an incentive to extend their training past the end of the school year, and gives them an early taste of some National level competition. For future years, if promoted right by the host club and the Provincial/National Associations, this event has the potential to begin to provide our developing young athletes with International level competition right here at home. This will help to develop our future potential National Team members and Olympians without the high cost of International Travel.
