Saturday’s competition saw an impressive debut by the USA’s Nia Abdallah, winning her 57 kg/125.4 lb match against her highly decorated Korean opponent, Eun Kyung Kwon, 5-3. Also winning for the US women were Elisha Voren (49 kg/107.8 lbs) and Lauren Cahoon (over 67 kg/147.4 lbs). In men’s competition, Mark Lopez (68 kg/149.6 lbs) defeated Irwing Vargas 5-1, and Jason Han (80 kg/176 lbs) upset South Korean National Champion Jak Hwan Kim by the score of 6-5. 2003 Titan Games defending heavyweight champ Tony Graf lost in a close match to Korea’s Keun Moo 2-1. Final team score was 5-3 in favor of the US.
On the second day of taekwondo competition, Korea dominated the Colombian team, winning six of eight weight classes. Also on Sunday, the US team won all of its matches against the team from Colombia.
At the end of the 2004 Titan Games, the US took home the team title, with Korea placing second, and Colombia coming in third.
